Crane inspections can range from a major inspection carried out by a competent person to a daily inspection carried out by the crane driver.

Crane testing is carried out to check the quality of design and the structural integrity of the crane after manufacture. Testing is also required after repairs to load bearing components such as crane booms, outrigger boxes and extension legs.
